Devita Stipek Writer
An award-winning painter since high school, Devita's Alaska roots go back to the Nome Gold Rush days. Her jewel-like oil paintings are in collections all over the world. As artists of old, she says of any success, “Soli Deo Gloria.”
As a child I remember setting up an easel in my parents back yard and painting en plein air. All these years later, painting outdoors, directly from the scene, is still where it happens for me. Vision that exists only perhaps in my subconscious, my goal is not to reproduce a scene in detail, as a photograph, rather to capture the convergence of a moment in time, to communicate an essence, to bring the viewer’s own memory and imagination in to play. In this way, in each of my paintings, if I have done my job, there is much more than meets the eye.
Painting outdoors is quite rigorous, and I don’t have the stamina I did when I was younger. My plein air paintings sell quickly. If you are interested in seeing my newest work before it goes ‘on the market’, please let me know.
